Panamera - Porsche’s First 4-door Sedan

Porsche Panamera 4S
Porsche 4 doors? Wow. Porsche brings us the all-new Panamera. Yes, it’s Porsche’s first four-door sedan. Imagine, from the company’s foundation in 1931, it took them 78 years to come up with the 4-door sedan offering. Hint: earlier prototypes of four-door sedans like the 1991 Porsche 989 prototype and the 4-door 911 based prototype never went into production. Porsche manufactured Cayenne in 2002, but it’s a five-seat mid-size luxury SUV.
You might think the Panamera is just a family sedan car, but the Panamera was built as a high performance sports sedan. Think of an “Executive sports car”. The Panamera Turbo is “sportscar technology, for four” as Porsche calls it. The Turbo version goes from 0-60mph in 4.0 seconds with a top track speed of 188mph. The 4.8L twin turbo V8 pumps up 500hp @ 6,000rpm and is selling at (MSRP) $132,600. There’s always something special with turbocharged engines, don’t you think?
Also available are 2 alternatives, the Panamera S and Panamera 4s which both have the same top track speed of 175mph and are both 400hp strong. The Panamera S is offered “cheaper” at (MSRP) $89,800 and goes 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds. The Panamera 4S is a bit more expensive at (MSRP) $93,800 but goes faster at 0-60mph within 4.8 seconds.
Do you think Porsche made a good decision to sell 4-door sedans? I guess so. The Panamera is way better than Porsche SUVs. Well, which Porsche are you? The Panamera is the new branch on Porsche’s family tree. The Panamera rolls October 17th.

The merging of Volkswagen and Porsche AG in 2011 could be one of the reasons why Porsche is now offering 4-door sedans.
